I found Whitney randomly on the Internet through one of those “series of clickings that leads to you something awesome sessions” (I’m guessing that it was a result of clicking through something that Seeso had done and finding her because she’s hooked into the same ukulele scene). I started out watching her uke videos on YouTube, which eventually led me to her blog, where I learned that she’s an incredibly talented illustrator.
I love her stuff so much that I actually hired her to do cover art for an acoustic EP that never ended up coming to fruition (my fault, not hers—the art is awesome, and one of these days I will find a way to use it, but it was yet another one of those cases where I’d bitten off way more than I could chew and had too many projects going at one time, and it came down to either A) finishing the acoustic pre-release EP; or B) actually releasing my CD).
I want to click the little ‘heart’ icon on everything that she posts. I just think that she has such a unique and fun style to her drawings, and they’re stylized in a way that convey an inherent humanity to her characters while keeping them ‘cartoony’ and delightful to look at.
In summary: if you’re not following her Twitter or her blog, you’re definitely losing at the Internet game. Her posts are like little bursts of joy and inspiration and art that never fail to make me smile. I will be asking her to illustrate something else for me at some point (note to self: next time, make sure it’s actually done beforehand, and don’t expect that you’re going to finish editing and mixing an EP while on a freakin’ tour), and if you find yourself in need of fun, fresh, and happiness-inducing illustration work, you should totally contact her. Because she’s awesome—both as an artist and as a person to work with.
*Disclaimer: She had no idea that I was going to post this and definitely didn’t ask for the plug—this post was just inspired by seeing her stuff on my dashboard and deciding that it was high time that I raved about one of my favorite indie artists. :-)
Today I’m pink. Messing around with markers.
