Impression

VERSE 1:
You try to hide your indiscretions
by making me one of your obsessions.
You try to see the best in me, hold my hand so patiently,
but in the end you lose attention.

CHORUS:
Tick tock, the time—like the beating of a drum—
you burrow into my mind and I’ve got nowhere to run.
I wish I knew all of your intentions.
And I’m sure, to you, that it all was just a game,
but one I can’t seem to forget I ever played.
How did you make such a big impression?

VERSE 2:
Can’t see your face without it making me shudder.
Then I suddenly recall the words that you would mutter
like, “I can feel that this is real.  My hopes are high.  You’re my ideal.”
But now I’m sure they’re in the ears of another.

BRIDGE:
Why can’t I figure it out
and pull myself from the ground?
Why do I run myself down thinking about the time you climbed into my head?
